Science is reporting on ways the US Census Bureau is trying to preserve privacy in data it releases. Reminds me of Antti’s lecture (pdf) in the Introduction to Data Science -course I was assisting last autumn.

Women at CES / Girls at GCHQ
Nice story from AP caught my eye. It seems that the male-dominated Consumer Electronics Show (CES) now has 4⁄9 female keynote speakers and 45% female speakers. Apparently 60% of the women are WOC as well.

AI, Machine Learning and whatnot
Interesting article in the latest issue of AI Matters (free access). So it seems we’re now in the epoch of Machine Learning. Looking at AI as the cosmology we can identify the epochs of Cybernetics (1950s-1970s), Expert Systems (1970s-1990s) and now Machine Learning (1990s->).
